Your team: You will become part of our data team at Terberg Group, which is currently being expanded. From the group, our data team is responsible for building and maintaining the data platform for data users in all our companies. In this, you are working with data and cloud engineers to do this successfully (to be hired). Furthermore, there are data roles in our organization that focus on building datasets, reporting, and advanced AI & data product teams (to be hired).  
As we are in the midst of changing data journey, we are actively looking for more roles to grow the team. The overall aim of the team is to optimize our company’s processes and achieve added value business goals through the effective use of data & AI.   

Your role: As a Lead Data Platform Engineer, you will work on the data foundation of our organization. With your knowledge of Cloud, data structures, pipelines, and data platforms, combined with our ambitions and challenges, we will take steps together towards our future data-driven organization. You will be broadly challenged with opportunities to develop in data architecture, data engineering, cloud engineering and data science. 

You will start by expanding and maintaining our ETL/ELT pipelines, professionalizing our data foundations (e.g., IaaC, CI/CD, central orchestration of pipelines, etc.) scaling our data Warehouse/Lakehouse, contributing to building data marts and data products, and setup (near) real-time data flows.  

You will work closely with the members of the group data team, representatives from other Terberg companies, and you will have an important role in building our data team and technical platform. You will report to the Group Data Manager.  

Tasks and Responsibilities: 

  • Data platform development: as Lead Data Platform Engineer you are responsible for building our data platform, with all its components: scalability, security, cost-effectiveness, etc. You are expected to have a leading role in determining and maintaining our technical data platform, serving an array of different use cases like reporting, AI/ML cases, real-time streaming, etc.  
  • Coaching colleagues: as the leading role in our technological data landscape, we expect you to work with other data roles in our organization to improve their skills and ways of working. For example, to make sure they use our data platform as effectively as possible.  
  • Data integrations and pipelines: you are responsible for building data pipelines that connect source systems with our data platform to create data products. We distinct analytical data streams and (near) real-time data streams that feed into operational applications and external APIs. The data flows through our platform should provide clear lineage to support maintenance, monitoring, and the understandability.  
  • Data product management: as Platform Lead, you will have strong contributions to how we build our data products, making sure they are goal-oriented (serving the purpose of the data product), cost-effective, and sustainable (e.g. stable performance, possible to update, accessible, well-described, and easy to maintain)   
  • Collaboration: as Lead Data Platform Engineer you will work in multidisciplinary teams with people in various roles to collectively provide the best data solutions for Terberg (also including internal, external, local, and group).   

Required Skills and Expertise: 
We value curiosity and the ability to learn new techniques more than having the perfect experience for what we need today. However, there are some must-have expertise that we expect from our Lead Data Platform Engineer. 
Must have:  

  • Strong experience in the Azure Cloud 
  • Strong background in building and maintaining data pipelines (ELT/ETL), including both for analytical and real-time purposes 
  • Strong proficiency in SQL (a.o. knowledge of stored procedures)  
  • Understanding of data governance, data quality, and security best practices 
  • Architectural knowledge of analytical data stores (like medallion architecture) and dimensional data modeling techniques. 
  • Curiosity and ability to learn new techniques and apply them hands-on in a business context. 
  • Analytical problem-solving skills: Both independently and as part of a team 

 Nice to have:  

  • Experience with at least a few from: Python, Bash/Shell, Scala, Go, DAX 
  • Experience in relevant tooling like: Data Factory, Synapse, dbt, Fabric, Data Bricks, APIs (incl. Gateways) 
  • Experience with IaaC and containerization, for example with Azure Bicep, Terraform, ARM JSON, Kubernetes, or Docker.   
  • Working in agile project environments and with tools like Jira, Confluence, etc.  
  • Experienced in using Git solutions like Azure DevOps or GitHub. 
  • Experience with ERP data and expertise in the manufacturing industry is considered a pre
